ABS103 Everyday Psychology ECA July 2026: A Day in the Life Video on Two Types of Intelligence, Singapore
ABS103 Everyday Psychology End-of-Course Assessment, July Semester 2026
The ABS103 ECA is worth 50% of the course and is submitted as a video plus a short Word document. For Part 1 (80 marks) you make a 4:30 to 5:00 minute video called “A Day in the Life of a(n) ___” that shows how crystallised and fluid intelligence appear in ordinary situations from your own life, with you on screen and narrating in your own voice. Part 2 (20 marks) is a 300-word reflection on one key learning point. The deadline is 29 October 2026 at 12 noon.
Course Learning Outcomes Assessed
- Part 1: identify key concepts in psychology relating to day-to-day life and work (LO1); relate psychological principles to one’s own experiences to enhance interpersonal skills and communication (LO2); explain human behaviour across a variety of everyday settings from various perspectives (LO6).
- Part 2: recognise the importance of applying various theories and concepts to understand human behaviour (LO4).
Part 1: Video Production – Topic: Intelligence (80 marks)
Time limit: 5 minutes. Produce a 5-minute video entitled “A Day in the Life of a(n) ______” which illustrates the distinction between crystallised and fluid intelligence.
Your video will be assessed on your ability to identify situations that depict the two different types of intelligence and explain how they occur in everyday life. Relate them to your own experiences and communicate your understanding through your video in a clear and cohesive manner. Please ensure that there are key takeaways for the audience. Your video will not be assessed on the video production quality.
Important notes
- The video must be no shorter than 4:30 minutes and no longer than 5:00 minutes.
- Save the video as an MP4 file (maximum 500MB).
- Any format is accepted (documentary, animation, live action, etc.), but not a lecture format such as narrated lecture slides.
- You must feature in the video (at least at the start, to introduce it) and all narration must be in your natural voice.
- Submit early to check for file size or format problems; corrupt files or files that fail to play will not be graded.
Getting started
- Step 1 – Background story: think of a story in which your character experiences episodes or situations that illustrate the two types of intelligence, drawing on daily life or TV/movies for inspiration.
- Step 2 – Relevant aspects of intelligence: identify crystallised and fluid intelligence in everyday situations and illustrate the distinction between them.
- You may draw inspiration from the course videos “A Day in the Life of…”, but do not copy the same idea or theme. Smartphone recording, free animation tools or PowerPoint saved in MPEG-4 format are all acceptable.
Grading rubric for the video
| Content | Accurately covers the topic of intelligence while focusing on crystallised and fluid intelligence | 30 marks |
| Clarity and cohesiveness | Presents a logical storyline that distinguishes the two types of intelligence; clear, convincing message and takeaways | 30 marks |
| Overall presentation | Engaging, compelling, creative and informative | 20 marks |
Part 2: Reflection (20 marks)
Word limit: 300 words. In no more than 300 words, prepare a short reflection which highlights ONE key learning point you gained from the process of producing this video assignment. Your reflection should recognise the relevance of crystallised and fluid intelligence in everyday life.
- Describe your feelings and thoughts about the experience of preparing the video on the assigned topic.
- Evaluate the good and bad of the experience.
- Conclude what you learned and what you would do differently.
The reflection must express your own voice and learning; using AI tools to produce or substantially shape it is not accepted.
Submission Notes
- Submit both parts through the same [ECA] assignment link: the MP4 video in the Comments box (Part 1) and one Word document containing the cover page and reflection (Part 2).
- 5 marks are deducted if the cover page is incomplete, inaccurate or missing.
- GenAI may only be used for brainstorming, summarising readings for reference or correcting minor language errors, with proper disclosure.

Get Help By Expert
Marks in the ABS103 ECA depend on whether a viewer can clearly see the difference between crystallised and fluid intelligence. Common problems are scenes that only show “being smart”, narration that never names the concept, a missing takeaway at the end, and a reflection that retells the video rather than analysing one learning point. Time limits matter too: a video under 4:30 or over 5:00 minutes breaks the rules. An expert can help you plan a storyboard, tighten your script and structure the 300-word reflection in your own voice.
