HRM Assignment Help for SUSS Students Writing on Singapore Rules

HR answers are lost on two things: applying a guideline as though it were a statute, and comparing gross pay to a basic salary threshold. Send us the brief and we name the current instrument.

  • The current rule, dated. Every threshold checked against the regulator and stated as at a date.
  • Recommendations with owners. A mechanism and a measure, not a belief about good practice.
  • Nobody else is told. We do not contact SUSS or your tutor about your HR scenario, and files sit under Singapore's PDPA.

Which HRM Curriculum Am I On?

The degree sits in the S R Nathan School of Human Development, not the School of Business. Full-time and part-time curricula differ, though both share twelve compulsory HRM courses.

Shared compulsory core

HRM203 HRM231 HRM233 HRM313 HRM318 HRM331 HRM333 HRM335 HRM357 HRM358 HRM373 BUS105

Human behaviour in organisations, employment law and industrial relations, training, total rewards, human capital measurement, talent management, performance management, leadership development, workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, assessment and selection, and statistics.

Full-time only

HRM487 HRM499

Strategic human resource management, and a ten-credit applied project. If you need help with a final-year HRM project, you are on the full-time route — the part-time curriculum has no equivalent.

The full-time degree is a four-year direct honours route with an internship requirement.

Electives you can actually choose

HRM259 HRM261 HRM263 HRM375 HRM378 HRM379 COM302 BUS353

Industrial relations processes, work motivation, team dynamics, interviewing techniques, managing conflict and misconduct, strategic foresight, corporate communication and project management. The conflict and interviewing courses tend to set scenario questions rather than essays.

A caution about module lists

Several curriculum versions are live by cohort. The official table carries an older structure with a different compulsory set, and students before the January 2016 intake followed another.

Check your own curriculum in the student system, not a help page, including this one. Send us your code and we will say whether we have the right person.

Coverage first

Who Does the Employment Act Cover?

Everyone on a contract of service is covered, says the Ministry of Manpower: local or foreign, full-time, part-time, temporary or contract. Seafarers, domestic workers, statutory board staff and civil servants are not.

What makes someone a workman

Work that mainly involves manual labour: manual workers, artisans and apprentices, operators of commercial vehicles carrying passengers, and supervisors of manual workers who themselves do manual work for more than half their time.

The rules on rest days, hours of work and conditions of service apply at different salary levels for workmen and non-workmen.

Three questions, in this order

  1. 1Is this person covered at all? Contract of service, and not in one of the excluded categories.
  2. 2Workman or non-workman? Decided by the nature of the work, not the job title.
  3. 3Does Part 4 apply to them? Which turns on a basic salary figure most students calculate incorrectly, as the next section shows.

Answer those three in your first paragraph and the rest of your analysis has somewhere firm to stand.

The calculation

Why Is My Part 4 Salary Threshold Answer Wrong?

Because you compared gross pay to the threshold. Part 4 covers workmen on a basic monthly salary up to four thousand five hundred dollars, and non-workmen up to two thousand six hundred.

Monthly pay slip total for a non-workman employee

$3,150

Less transport allowance

− $200

Less mobile phone allowance

− $80

Less monthly productivity incentive

− $150

Less overtime worked that month

− $220

Basic monthly salary

$2,500

So Part 4 applies. On gross pay the employee looks outside the two thousand six hundred dollar threshold for non-workmen. On basic salary they are inside it, and the answer changes completely.

Two habits that protect this part of your answer

Show the subtraction rather than asserting the conclusion. A marker can follow four lines of arithmetic and verify them, but not a sentence that simply states the result.

And date your figures. Salary thresholds change, and the non-workman figure has been raised before, so cite the Ministry of Manpower page and say when you checked it.

Law or guideline

When Is an HR Practice Unlawful or Non-Compliant?

They are different, and the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices sit on the second side. All employers are expected to adhere to them, but they are not legislation and cannot make anything illegal.

Unlawful

A breach of a statute, enforced through penalties and the courts

The Employment Act and its subsidiary rules sit here, with the false declaration offence under the fair consideration rules: imprisonment up to two years, a fine up to twenty thousand dollars, or both.

How to write it: name the instrument, name the provision, apply it to the facts, and state the consequence the statute attaches. If the citation form is what is slowing you down, see how to cite a Singapore statute correctly.

Non-compliant

A breach of guidelines, enforced through work pass privileges

The Tripartite Guidelines set five principles: recruit on merit, treat employees fairly and with respect, provide fair training opportunities, reward on ability and contribution, and comply with labour laws.

How to write it: say the conduct breaches the Guidelines, then say that enforcement runs through work pass privileges rather than through the courts.

This distinction is worth a sentence in almost every fair employment answer.

Rules changing now

Which Employment Regime Does My Answer Apply?

Say which, and as at what date. Workplace fairness legislation passed Parliament in January 2025 and is reported as taking effect around the end of 2027, so the Guidelines still govern today.

Governing now

The Tripartite Guidelines

Expected of all employers, not legislated. Five principles covering merit-based recruitment, respect, fair opportunity, fair reward and compliance with labour law.

Enforced through the fair consideration rules: job advertising requirements on the national jobs portal for work pass applications, with a minimum debarment period for employers who do not comply and longer periods in serious cases.

The sentence to put in your answer

As at the date of writing, the conduct breaches the Tripartite Guidelines, not a statute, and is addressed through work pass privileges. Once the workplace fairness legislation is in force, statutory consequences should apply instead.

Retrenchment rules

What Do Singapore Retrenchment Rules Require?

Any retrenchment triggers notification, not a minimum number of employees being let go. Employers with at least ten employees must notify the Ministry of Manpower within five working days after affected employees are told.

The norm that is not an entitlement

Retrenchment benefit is a norm of two weeks to one month's salary per year of service, and a one-month standard in unionised companies. Employees with under two years of service are not eligible.

Students write the two-weeks-to-one-month range as though it were statutory. It is advisory, and the firm parts are the two-year eligibility gate and the unionised standard.

What fair selection has to look like

  • Objective criteria, such as the employee's ability to contribute to the company's future business needs.
  • No selection on age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibility or disability.
  • Maintaining a strong Singaporean core, so retrenchment should generally not reduce the proportion of local employees.
  • Due notice, or payment in lieu, with intentions communicated early and before any public announcement.

A strong answer applies these as a selection process with named criteria, not as a list of things the employer should bear in mind.

Recommendations

How Do I Make an Evidence-Based HR Recommendation?

HR is the subject where everyone has a view, which makes it easy to write confidently and score poorly. These briefs ask you to appraise design and implementation, to evaluate, and to propose recommendations.

Opinion, confidently expressed
“The company should implement a more effective performance management system with regular feedback, as this will improve employee motivation and reduce turnover.”

Nothing here is wrong and nothing here is arguable. No evidence, no mechanism, no measure, and nothing a marker can test.

Appraisal, with a mechanism
“The appraisal system was designed around annual ratings but implemented with no manager training, and the engagement survey records low confidence in review fairness. That points to implementation rather than design, so the recommendation is a half-day calibration workshop for reviewing managers before the next cycle, with rating distribution reviewed across teams afterwards.”

Evidence from the case, a judgement about design versus implementation, and an action with an owner and a checkpoint.

Three tests before you submit a recommendations section

  • Could a reader disagree with this sentence? If not, it is not yet an argument.
  • Does each recommendation name who does what, and by when?
  • Is the evidence from the case, or from your own experience of workplaces?
Four ways we help

Which HR Assignment Help Do I Need?

HR work stalls in four places: settling whether the statute applies, finding the current rule, turning a view into an evidence-based recommendation, and keeping a scenario answer inside the word limit.

Scenario in front of you

Scope and the rules

We work out what the brief is asking, settle coverage and thresholds first, and name the current instrument for each issue.

No hours available

Written from scratch

A full model answer on your brief, with coverage established, thresholds calculated and shown, the correct instrument named and dated, and recommendations that carry a mechanism and a measure.

Draft written

Review and rule check

Read as a marker would, with attention to the slips that cost most: guidelines described as law, gross pay compared to a basic salary threshold, a dated retrenchment trigger, recommendations with no owner.

Content settled

Editing and referencing

Language, structure and citations, trimmed to the word limit, with every statutory reference checked against the regulator's own page and dated so your answer reads as current.

FAQs

What Else Do Students Ask About HRM Assignments?

Straight answers on the Employment Act, thresholds, fair employment, retrenchment, privacy and price. More in our full FAQ.

Is HRM part of the SUSS School of Business?

No. The Human Resource Management degree and its HRM-coded courses sit in the S R Nathan School of Human Development. Business courses such as statistics appear in the curriculum, but the degree is not a business school programme.

Do full-time and part-time HRM students take the same modules?

No. Both share twelve compulsory HRM courses. The full-time route adds strategic human resource management and a ten-credit applied project, and is a four-year direct honours degree with an internship. Part-time students take neither.

Who is covered by the Singapore Employment Act?

All employees under a contract of service, according to the Ministry of Manpower: local or foreign, full-time, part-time, temporary or contract, paid hourly, daily, monthly or by the piece. Seafarers, domestic workers, statutory board employees and civil servants are not covered.

What counts as a workman?

Someone whose work mainly involves manual labour: manual workers, artisans, apprentices, operators of commercial vehicles carrying passengers, and supervisors of manual workers who themselves do manual work for more than half their working time. The nature of the work decides it, not the job title.

What are the Part 4 salary thresholds?

Workmen earning a basic monthly salary up to four thousand five hundred dollars, and non-workmen up to two thousand six hundred. Part 4 governs rest days, hours of work and conditions of service. Thresholds change, so cite the Ministry of Manpower page and date it.

What does basic salary exclude?

Overtime payments, bonuses, the annual wage supplement, productivity incentive payments, reimbursement for special expenses and all allowances. Comparing gross pay to the threshold puts an employee outside Part 4 who is actually inside it. Show the subtraction in your answer.

Is it illegal to breach the Tripartite Guidelines?

No. All employers in Singapore are expected to adhere to the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices, but they are not legislation. Enforcement runs through work pass privileges: employers can face Ministry of Manpower scrutiny and debarment from making and renewing work pass applications.

What are the five fair employment principles?

Recruit on merit, such as skills, experience or ability to do the job; treat employees fairly and with respect, with progressive human resource management systems; give fair opportunity for training and development; reward on ability, performance, contribution and experience; and abide by labour laws.

Does the Workplace Fairness Act change this?

Workplace fairness legislation passed Parliament in January 2025 and is reported as taking effect around the end of 2027, naming protected characteristics and requiring written grievance procedures of larger employers. Law firm commentary carries this detail, so check the regulator and date your answer.

When must an employer notify a retrenchment?

Employers with at least ten employees must notify the Ministry of Manpower within five working days after affected employees are told. Any retrenchment triggers it, not a minimum number let go: the earlier five-employee trigger was removed in 2021.

How much retrenchment benefit is payable?

The norm is described as between two weeks and one month's salary per year of service, depending on the company's circumstances, becoming a one-month standard in unionised companies. It is advisory, and employees with less than two years of service are not eligible.

What does fair retrenchment selection require?

Objective criteria, such as ability to contribute to future business needs, with no selection on age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibility or disability. Keep a strong Singaporean core, give due notice or pay in lieu, and tell staff before a public announcement.

How is HRM assessed at SUSS?

Each course has continuous assessment plus an examinable component: exam, end-of-course assessment, oral presentation or a combination. You must pass both for a weighted final grade. Published examples: forty per cent for a leadership development end-of-course assessment and an assessment and selection group assignment.

What turns an HR opinion into a recommendation?

Evidence from the case, a named mechanism and a measure. These briefs ask you to appraise how something was designed and implemented, to evaluate, and to propose recommendations.

How much does HRM assignment help cost?

It depends on the module, the length, how much already exists and how soon you need it. Scoping the rules costs less than writing the answer, and a rule check costs less than both. The quote is fixed, in writing, and agreed before any work starts.
