Is HRM part of the SUSS School of Business?
+
No. The Human Resource Management degree and its HRM-coded courses sit in the S R Nathan School of Human Development. Business courses such as statistics appear in the curriculum, but the degree is not a business school programme.
Do full-time and part-time HRM students take the same modules?
+
No. Both share twelve compulsory HRM courses. The full-time route adds strategic human resource management and a ten-credit applied project, and is a four-year direct honours degree with an internship. Part-time students take neither.
Who is covered by the Singapore Employment Act?
+
All employees under a contract of service, according to the Ministry of Manpower: local or foreign, full-time, part-time, temporary or contract, paid hourly, daily, monthly or by the piece. Seafarers, domestic workers, statutory board employees and civil servants are not covered.
What counts as a workman?
+
Someone whose work mainly involves manual labour: manual workers, artisans, apprentices, operators of commercial vehicles carrying passengers, and supervisors of manual workers who themselves do manual work for more than half their working time. The nature of the work decides it, not the job title.
What are the Part 4 salary thresholds?
+
Workmen earning a basic monthly salary up to four thousand five hundred dollars, and non-workmen up to two thousand six hundred. Part 4 governs rest days, hours of work and conditions of service. Thresholds change, so cite the Ministry of Manpower page and date it.
What does basic salary exclude?
+
Overtime payments, bonuses, the annual wage supplement, productivity incentive payments, reimbursement for special expenses and all allowances. Comparing gross pay to the threshold puts an employee outside Part 4 who is actually inside it. Show the subtraction in your answer.
Is it illegal to breach the Tripartite Guidelines?
+
No. All employers in Singapore are expected to adhere to the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices, but they are not legislation. Enforcement runs through work pass privileges: employers can face Ministry of Manpower scrutiny and debarment from making and renewing work pass applications.
What are the five fair employment principles?
+
Recruit on merit, such as skills, experience or ability to do the job; treat employees fairly and with respect, with progressive human resource management systems; give fair opportunity for training and development; reward on ability, performance, contribution and experience; and abide by labour laws.
Does the Workplace Fairness Act change this?
+
Workplace fairness legislation passed Parliament in January 2025 and is reported as taking effect around the end of 2027, naming protected characteristics and requiring written grievance procedures of larger employers. Law firm commentary carries this detail, so check the regulator and date your answer.
When must an employer notify a retrenchment?
+
Employers with at least ten employees must notify the Ministry of Manpower within five working days after affected employees are told. Any retrenchment triggers it, not a minimum number let go: the earlier five-employee trigger was removed in 2021.
How much retrenchment benefit is payable?
+
The norm is described as between two weeks and one month's salary per year of service, depending on the company's circumstances, becoming a one-month standard in unionised companies. It is advisory, and employees with less than two years of service are not eligible.
What does fair retrenchment selection require?
+
Objective criteria, such as ability to contribute to future business needs, with no selection on age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibility or disability. Keep a strong Singaporean core, give due notice or pay in lieu, and tell staff before a public announcement.
How is HRM assessed at SUSS?
+
Each course has continuous assessment plus an examinable component: exam, end-of-course assessment, oral presentation or a combination. You must pass both for a weighted final grade. Published examples: forty per cent for a leadership development end-of-course assessment and an assessment and selection group assignment.
What turns an HR opinion into a recommendation?
+
Evidence from the case, a named mechanism and a measure. These briefs ask you to appraise how something was designed and implemented, to evaluate, and to propose recommendations.
How much does HRM assignment help cost?
+
It depends on the module, the length, how much already exists and how soon you need it. Scoping the rules costs less than writing the answer, and a rule check costs less than both. The quote is fixed, in writing, and agreed before any work starts.
